The heater is needed ecspecially during colder seasons. Next you will need the water filter. The water filter is very necessary, without it the water will get dirty and your fish will probably die. They make certain water filters for the amount of water thats in your tank. You will also need a top for your tank. Make sure you get the right size top for your tank depending if the tank is a long or high one. The light is also a necessity. Your fish need light, turning on of the light will usually mean food time for them. The light usually comes with the tank top. When filling up your tank you can use just tap water.
